Bringing Everyone Together
Under normal circumstances, anything that is attached to the word contagious or the word bug would send crowds running in the opposite direction. But not so with the social media frenzy that has taken over our culture and Pinterest is no exception. With all it's fun things to "pin" and "re-pin" how could we not fall for this top 50 best websites addition to our media world.
In truth, I had ventured away from joining the new online trend, waving it away as just another thing to tie up my time. I mean, as if I didn't already have a million things to do than to keep up with another "webfad" as I called it. Yet after hearing countless of co-workers, family and friends, and business associates all voice their love for this new site, I found myself typing in the url to get a closer look at what all the fuss was about. I was pleasantly surprised.
I instantly saw why Pinterest had become a household name and why so many were catching the pinterest "bug". It was full of sharing! Sharing is such a wonderful concept and Pinterest has found a way to allow us to share with the whole world. It's something special about sharing a little of yourself that always brings the sharer a little joy. The online community of "pinners" have the ability to share their likes and dislikes, organize their thoughts, and re-pin what they like about other's thoughts. As humans, we were not designed to keep our talents, gifts, and abilities to ourselves but we are to cheerfully give and share love with our fellow humans. Thus, I came to understand why this site was so widely popular. It is a great platform to share our thoughts and all the unique lovely concepts within them.
While reviewing the site, I observed wonderful photos of fashion, jewelry, food, furniture, antiques, food, baby gifts, shoes, and oh did I say FOOD. The recipes were incredible! I got immersed in all the healthy food choices and the sugary baked goods. What an enigma! I started writing down ingredients and wondering if I had them in my cabinets already. Then I realized, well, I could just "pin it" instead of writing them down on a scrap of paper that was bound to get lost amongst all the other important scraps of paper. So like a defeated foe, I signed up for a Pinterest account so I could place my newly found recipes on my "board" and stay all organized. Before I knew it, I was in a groove with this Pinterest thing that went well into two hours!
Then it hit me. The bright red pin it button had drawn me in like a moth to a flame. Like a bee to honey! Each and everyday, there was no way I could resist from logging on and seeing what everyone had to share and what new exciting things I could find. I was loving seeing what everyone else was so passionate about and what inspired them. I simply loved reading what was motivating their world and enjoyed the display of their talents. I finally relented to the fact that this was one social media outlet I actually enjoyed and found entertaining. Oh no, had I gotten bitten by the bug? Had I gotten smitten and loved on by the unique personalities of total strangers of the human kind? Had sharing and enjoying the different colors of our personalities on Pinterest changed a somewhat negative mindset of the infiltration of social media to my world? Yes, my friends, I believe I'm a goner! Pinterest is contagious and yes, I caught the bug.
Achoo! Can someone pass me a tissue, I mean my laptop please?
