Kim Heathcott, CEO/Clarion Security
Kim is a Memphis native. When she retired 3 years ago, Kim started her security guard company with 1 other person. It has now reached revenue of nearly $4m, and has about 200 employees. It is a small office and most employees are working out in the field all the time.
Having established few business relationships on her own, Kim began attending NAWBO meetings (National Association of Women Business Owners), and after having served on the Board¸ she was recently elected President of NAWBO/Memphis. NAWBO has provided much practical business guidance, including emphasizing the importance of having a strong business plan, what to do with social media, and how to hook up with inspiring women who were happy to share their struggles and their success stories.
Many newcomers do not know how to begin, being among the first generation of start-ups. NAWBO provides practical education, workshops on business plans, cash/flow forecasting, financing, how to do business with the government, and how to network, market and sell better – to help women business owners be successful.
NAWBO offers monthly luncheons for programs, and holds workshops once or twice a year. The past luncheon, on August 13, was held at the Chickasaw Country Club from 11:30-1:00p.m. The event was Speed-Networking – fast and fun! This event provided a great opportunity to “plug in!”
Delmar said she has been to several of these. It’s a wonderful opportunity for any aspiring entrepreneur to be in the room with many dynamic experienced members who have already become entrepreneurs and love sharing their experience and resources.
Kim is honored to have been recently nominated as a “Super Woman” in business and will be featured in the Memphis Business Journal in the next issue.

Shandon Allen, Vitamist Spray Vitamins
Shandon was born in Buford, NC, but grew up in Memphis and graduated from Woodell High School.
Over the years, Shandon has been trained in various forms of martial arts, and his martial arts trainers placed a strong emphasis on nutrition and wellness, and looking into your personal nutritional intake. Shandon has been training others in martial arts for 32 years, with a strong focus on Capuetta. (Delmar revealed that she had taken Karate for a PhysEd credit as an undergraduate, and loved it.)
Shandon has been an independent distributor/representative of Vitamist Spray Vitamins for the last 3 years.
Shandon has a fitness blog, “Shandon on Health & Fitness.” Many individuals are intimidated by wellness. Being creatures of habit, they tend to complicate things. They feel it’s some sort of secret or a magical formula.
Shandon’s blog breaks down things that should be in your diet normally, and puts it in a friendly, non-threatening environment on the pages.
Delmar – We should be even more cognizant of our health now, in light of recent healthcare issues, not taking good care of ourselves, high healthcare costs. Many have no health insurance at all.
Shandon: We are more of a reactive society. There is more of a proactive movement now, partly spurred by the rise in healthcare costs. The human body wants to be in balance, wants to heal itself. His goal is for others to learn how to help their own bodies do what they’re naturally supposed to. He said his primary goal is to help others learn more about nutrition and wellness as a whole.
VSV has been around for 30 years, 20 years in the Physicians’ Desk Reference, and has patents in 44+ countries. The technology that sets it apart from other vitamin supplements is the level and speed of absorption, absorbed into your tongue and cheek in 42 seconds. Pills-form vitamins taken orally, absorption is through your intestines. As you age, over age 35, your ability to absorb nutrients through a food-grade intake vitamin rapidly declines. After 55 it’s almost medically impossible to absorb B12. B12 injections have become so popular. The VSV B12-500 micrograms has blood studies as high as 3x stronger than a shot from a doctor. 90-95% absorption by spraying it in the air. The same technology is used by EMTs for a heart attack victim when they use spray nitroglycerin.
Shandon also writes poetry and, as a retired research nurse, Wy Woods Harris got very excited about that. He wrote a poetry book in 2004 called “Soul Searching for Chocolate Lovers.”
Question asked by David Norwood, on the tech team: Would it be better to use the spray vitamins later in life rather than now? (This from an 18-20 year old.)
Shandon: I believe it’s now. A pill vitamin is a 1936 invention. Pills have binders and fillers, most are not beneficial to you. Some examples are shellac, talc, yeast, wood chips, even sand.
With Vitamist Spray, you get 90-95% absorption in less than 30 seconds with the 55micron delivery system. Spray into the air, you don’t see a drop, it’s just a mist and it dissipates.
When you buy a vitamin providing only 2-10% absorption, out of $10-20 cost, you’re getting maybe $2 worth of what you are paying for.
Vitamist Spray provides an opportunity to have a different way to get your vitamins and nutritional supplements.
Question: Should you maintain certain meals to accompany your fitness program.
Yes, many within the company have lost a lot of weight with just the spray vitamins.
To optimize what you are doing, learn for yourself what works for you.

Maricia Sherman, CEO, HERmotivation
Hermotivation events are like a pep rally on wheels for women, with the purpose being empowering them in their purpose, what they are uniquely designed for. They have the best, most fun events, come together celebrating each others’ gifts and talents – their “groove.” Your groove is whatever your passion is. It is a place where each woman has opportunity to tell what her passion is. And they all shout out “Girl I see your groove!” and then they each dance down that red carpet!
Delmar: A groove can be becoming an author. Then Delmar began promoting Maricia’s first recently-released book, “Drop The Rock.” An easy read and feed your soul and spirit.
The book was birthed out of Maricia being “in a season,” it is very personal. It was a time when she felt very uncertain, praying God what am I here to do? She felt in her spirit God telling her to “Be certain,” which means to be inevitable, bound to happen, for sure.
In the Old Testament of the Bible, Judges 90:53 refers to “a certain woman.” It’s about a woman standing in the back of a high tower, shielding her children from another attack on her village. The woman suddenly acted, moved forward to the opening and dropped a millstone, crushing the skull of a king below who was coming to destroy her village.
In that time, women and children were kept to the back, away from danger. The woman had gotten fed up, and she moved forward with a purpose, determined to fight!
Maricia’s message is for women to just be what God called us to be – “CERTAIN.”
In the New Testament, our Rock is Jesus Christ. Drop Jesus on your situation, and declare that your purpose is certain.
The book is available at Maricia’s website: www.HERmotivation.org. There is a link for “Drop The Rock.” Maricia has recently started group studies based on the book, with topics such as “Fear or Fierce?”, “Whose Shoes Are You Really Wearing?”, “Affect vs. Effect.” It’s really talking about No more limitations.
Some changes are coming:
HERgroove is going through a re-branding, becoming HERgroove. Maricia has started a Facebook club where women can come and tell what their groove is, connect and collaborate.
Maricia said to her husband “I’m going BETting – Bringing Everyone Together at BOCI.”
HERgroove has partnered with BOCI Radio and TV to start HERgroove Radio, and also HERgroove TV!
In Spring 2014 – “I see your groove” celebration! – celebrate gifts, talents, and uniqueness.
Her mom was abused by her dad for many years. She needed therapy and counseling, but it also affected the children.
Mom name is Betty Meaks, survived to raise her children and show them that love is real.
Maricia has named an award The Betty Award, to honor women in Memphis and all around the area who are motivating their world, making changes . Honoring women in the city, how raising their families, from every scope of life.
Contact information: HERmotivation.org. Twitter: HERgroove (soon she will have HERgroove.com)
Also on Thursdays at BOCI, BETting she will meet some great and fabulous people.
Maricia will be one of Delmar’s speakers at her upcoming women’s summit “Living in the Now” Sept 28. Livinginthenow.info
Reco Johnson, Organo Coffee (“Better Life Better Coffee”)
www.betterlifebettercoffee.com; To view the products. Reco is forming a community, in-person and virtual, bringing professional business people together with a certain mindset, offering motivational training to launch professionals into what they see as their destiny. Masterminding, interviewing each other, building relationships to go farther. Reco said that he has learned a lot especially through membership in Business Over Coffee International (BOCI).
Reco was raised in Byhalia MS, and now lives in Memphis with his wife and 2 daughters who are in middle school. Reco said he has always been a follower. Over time, he realized he needed to “unplug” and change directions in his professional life. You might have to become your own leader for a time, and then try to bring in others to go your way. He wants to bring like-minded professionals together, learn what inspires them, encourage and motivate them.
Delmar: leadership – a leader needs to learn how to follow. Shifting your perspective, “dance with a different partner.” But you being a follower, you may need to become a leader in order for others to know what your vision is. Recognize that you might be a leader, on the inside, that you have not discovered.
Organo coffee has a better and healthier product. It has an herb called ganoderma. But also coffee is like a universal language, like music – everybody can relate to coffee, it’s comfortable, non-offensive or threatening. So many things can be accomplished.
go out and have coffee, become a better listener. Whatever aspects we can build around you.
